Rooms and Things – Part II

Continuation of our “Rooms and Things” article posted on December 16, 2009:

How many of you watch HGTV and find yourself remodeling your own home based on their ideas? Whole-house makeover or just a small one day project to work on a tiny powder room – find the remodeling information to suit your needs. We have divided this article into two sections: section one – Rooms, and section two – Things!

Baby Rooms

Rooms: Your child will grow fast, so try to purchase Nursery sets that can be expandable for later ages. You may find cribs that convert to small beds, and would serve as a functional bed for your child for up to 5 to 6 years.

Things: In a nursery you never know what is going to get dirty. Try to make just about everything in the room washable and durable. Hardwood floors with rugs are great, but if you do not have the luxury of hardwood, rugs laid over carpet work as well. For inexpensive and creative art, frame pictures from old children books. A row of framed pages can be interactive for a child as they learn to read, as well as fill a large blank wall in a contemporary way.

Kids Furniture

Rooms: Your kid will appreciate a nicely done bedroom if you involve their design ideas into the functionality that you would like to chose for them. When we polled 100 kids on different bed styles that they prefer, most boys would rather have a Bunk Bed or a Loft Bed. Luckily, there are plenty of options! We offer many ergonomic office furniture sets that are incorporated into a loft style bunk bed design. However, most girls would rather have a smaller white bed or light soft color tones.

Things: To help your kids stay organized, keep things at their height. Closet storage, benches and coat racks will all be used more often if kids can get to them easily. Kids are collectors, so make collecting easy. Pictures and postcards don’t always have to be stuck to a corkboard. Try hanging them from strings in front of a window or clipping them to a string along the wall to create an interactive border in a room.

Youth Furniture

Rooms: Youth bedroom, or also known as a retreat from their parents, will probably go through many re-design stages throughout your child’s youthful age. Bunk beds will be “so out” and TV stands and video game consoles will be “so in”.

Things: Let your child make a statement! Most craft and hobby stores sell posters and art prints, but try to also shop online if you would like more choices and savings. Be sure to include multiple kinds of lighting in a room. Overall lighting is a necessity but so is a reading light.
